I've been using this site mostly, while sometimes going here instead.
To begin with, the real pain of these devices is the method of unlocking secret characters. Basically the Angels (the characters you raise, the monsters from the show) are split into something like tiers.
If you raise every Angel in one tier, you now have access to a secret character from that tier.
There's 4-5 Angels in each tier, and each Angel starts as an embryo that then cocoons for a certain amount of time (you decide when it hatches based on the amount of time required for a specific tier). The adult Angel lives about 3 days.
This means that if you're going for the tier with 4 Angels in it, it's about a day for each embryo and then 3 additional days for the adults. You're looking at about 16 days to access the secret character.
This is where the problem sets in.
For one thing, you're not gonna get the individual Angels you want unless you really know what you're doing. So you're likely going to get a few repeat Angels here and there, extending the time it takes. You can let a repeated Angel die, but that'll still take about a day based on the second site's estimate.
This is do-able, though. Lots of people have accessed the secret characters.
But it's still a bit of a race against the clock. And by "clock" I mean the two months (give or take) that your batteries will afford you, since the Tamagotchi Nanos don't have a save function.
If your batteries die while you're going for a secret character, you'll have to start from scratch once you get some fresh ones.
I'm not a huge Tamagotchi person, but I've messed with different Nano devices and even Digimon in the past. I know that this kind of thing requires a guide if you want to do it as painlessly as possible, and the guides... are comprehensive. A lot of work went into them. Hell, you can see all the work that went into that second one.
But sometimes they're a little confusing.
I tried and failed twice to get Gaghiel this week. Here's part of the info for Gaghiel on the Tamagotchi wiki that I linked above:
"Start by giving 4 S2 organs [food] and plenty of melons [snack] to keep it happy then feed it S2 organs when LCL gets dirty [poop, in Tamagotchi terms, and there's a regular level and a heavier level if you don't clean it right away]"
Here are the issues I think I ran into:
How many organs when the LCL gets dirty? First time I only did one per LCL, which got me Matarael, who you get via Bad care. So the second time I fully fed it only when the LCL got dirty, which got me Sandalphon, who requires Average care.
What exactly makes the care Bad/Average/Good? The second site discusses Mood but I think that's a different thing.
I dunno... it's frustrating enough to have failed twice trying to get one specific Angel, but now I have two to go in that tier, which means I'm probably gonna start getting doubles since I can't figure out how to get the one specific one I'm aiming for, and these batteries are not new...
On a much less concerning note, I have the Eva-00' (the white Rei one) and just got the Eva Mark.06 (the purple Kaworu one). I've been using the white one maybe a month now, and the brand new purple one's pitch is slightly lower. I dunno how the brand new device sounds like it's running low on battery while the old device doesn't... I'm hoping it's just a battery issue and not a defective device...
Anyway, did anyone have an easier time with the Eva? Got any general tips or pointers? Maybe I'm just not good at Tamagotchi, I dunno.
