Tamagotchi not beeping - Defective?

Hi everyone!
I just bought a gen 1 tamagotchi yesterday and I'm so excited to own one again! However, when I set everything up I had no sound. So I looked it up and unmuted the sound this morning and it worked and I heard beeping when i tried to go through the select options, but then it stopped beeping halfway through the menu. I also have not heard a single beep from my tamagotchi as well. Thank you for all your help everyone!!!
