About 4 years ago, I went to pay my grandparents a visit during summer break from university. My grandfather had just bought his first smartphone. He had managed to set it up, and made a Facebook account. I was impressed (heh, even my mother couldn't get all this done without fear of causing an apocalypse) at how well he had been doing.
Grandfather: ...so AoP, I wanted to connect with you and your parents on Facebook, but everytime I look you guys up, nothing shows. I think my Facebook is broken.
Me: Yeah? Let me try.
He hands me his phone and I do some basic things like checking if his mobile data was turned on and switched the phone on and off for good measure. I open up the app after all of this and the moment I press the Hamburger Button, there's a very confused look on his face.
Grandfather: ...there's an entire menu in there?
It dawns on me that he really had been doing something wrong, so I ask him to demonstrate how he's been searching for people. It turns out he had been using the Update Status field to search for people. For the past 2 weeks, he had been repeatedly posting my name, my parents', my relatives' and a few of his friends' on his statuses in an attempt to look for us online.
We have a bit of a laugh, and I teach him how to use Facebook on his device. He now still regularly uses Facebook to post things about his day, and to catch up with us on a regular basis. He's happy and that also makes me happy.
Little side commentary: GUI design is important.
