Just got off a call that was too good not to post. Important Note When I say "Good" I mean BAD. Very Bad.
Me: Helpdesk, Yankeeninja speaking.
Derpina: Hello, my computer is freezing. I've already restarted and it's still happening.
Me: Is it your whole computer or just a specific application?
Derpina: Application X
Me: We're having networking issues right now. Everyone in the office is having problems. We've already notified the vendor and have a tech on the way.
Derpina: But, it's not working.
Me: I understand. Everyone in the building is having problems right now. Unfortunately, all we can do is wait.
Derpina: But, should I restart again? It's freezing.
Me: You can, if you like, but it won't resolve the issue. The issue isn't the computer it's the entire network.
Derpina: Oh, I see. So, will restarting my computer help? You see, the application is frozen.
Me: (In a slightly more forceful tone) I understand! Everyone in your building is having issues. Restarting will not help because the issue is with the equipment that connects your computer to the the internet. We've contacted our service provider and we have a tech on the way. I understand it's frustrating, but all we can do is wait for them to get there.
Derpina: So, what do I do? Just wait?
Me: Yes.
Derpina: Oh, well, this isn't my area of expertise, so, that's why I want to know. So, I shouldn't reboot my computer, then?
FACEDESK
Me: No. Just be patient and try to work as best you can until the issue is resolved.
Derpina: SIGH OK, thanks.
