Post Body

I worked in a UK hospital for around 2 months before moving to London, there was quite a few interesting scenarios.

I started out by helping the training team. They were manually inputting and calculating reports by hand, for a hospital the size of 4 football fields [soccer for you 'yanks]. As you could imagine, a lot of data was being input and calculated in Excel sheets by hand. I taught the training team how to use formula to do their calculations for them, saving them around 60 hours of work time per month.

I then moved role into their actual IT department, as first line. I'd often need to enter conference rooms to fix their projector issues, and I did have to venture into the Operating Theatre to swap out their machines after malfunctions, which was interesting when you have to undress completely and don scrubs, gloves, and a mask just to pickup a computer.

TL;GB too long; good bit

The doctors and consultants each had their own personal assistant, who worked in a large single office room full of desks. Strangely enough everyone there was a female, and had stacks of patient records and managed the life of the doctors.

I got a ticket from one of the new assistants once saying their mouse didn't work and they couldn't see the "arrow". Consulting the rest of the team, they said to just head up with a new mouse and swap it out for them. It was a good 15 minute walk away, but I got there fine and before I swapped it out I asked them to show me how it wasn't working. I literally witnessed them pick up the mouse, place it on the computer monitor, and move it around the screen. I had to refrain from facedesking and show them that they can move the mouse on the mousepad to move the cursor. Much embarrassment was had and a few of the other assistants giggled as they walked past. I left the room and returned the mouse I took to stock.
