I have worked in call centers (telecom and internet carries) for about 20 years now. I started as a customer service rep. Moved around to tech support, then training, and now in a support role. I worked through 9/11 with corporate customers and their telecom services. The day it happened, all lines were so busy, no one could get through. Then we went through the aftermath.
I've seen folks affected by weather events. Events that drove call volume and angry customers.
My mom also works on the phones now as well. She lives with me and we are both working from home. I am managing staffing for one companies call centers, she is taking medical billing calls for a hospital service. I hear the calls she's getting, its heartbreaking. I see the call volume from COVID-19 for my own company. 300 calls in queue, 4 hour hold or call back. This week its calmer.
I feel so much for you all. Hang in there. People that are calling are at their wits end. I know its hard to let it all roll off of your back. Make sure you are taking your breaks and really breaking away. Then get back to it, nose to the grindstone. I hope you know folks like me are trying to help make your workday easier in any way we can.
These have been hard days. I'm proud of you for working hard and keeping a level head. If you are struggling, that is okay too. You don't always have to be strong. Above all make sure you are taking care of yourselves. You can't help others on an empty tank.
Hang in there. I'm rooting for you all during this time!
