Tablets for 7 year olds - Kindle Fire but not

We're in Switzerland, so we can't get a Kindle Fire tablet because most of the features don't work - but I would like it to be something similar - big screen, modest but efficient specifications, some kind of built in parental control system.
Most importantly, be readily available with a very protective case. I'm not buying a new one after six months.
Any ideas?
