Hello everyone, my friend and I are looking into making a board game and we are between two combat system and we would like this community input to know which you guys like the most to help us decide.
The first one would be a system kind of similar to Gloomhaven in a sense that. The action card that you would use to control your character every turn would be a pick of 1,2 or 3 card in your hand. The deck of those cards would be made from equipment that would give you special abilities, let's say that a dagger and an axe wouldn't give you the same cards. Armor like shield, chest piece, boots, gloves and more would give you utility/ defense card, as well as magic ability could be obtained another way. Adding some reaction card so that you have a way to block or dodge incoming attacks. All in all to make it so that you have to control your character in different ways every turn so that everything stays fresh.
The second one would be a system with stamina. Each character would have their own stamina and stamina regen depending on how you build him/her. you would get some free movements action per turn but everything else would cost stamina. Attacking, magic, blocking, dodging and using consumable would cost stamina. Adding a negative effect if you would go under stamina(let's say a monster damage your depleted stamina) Gear could increase diminish your stamina regen, like heavy armor would reduce stamina regen and clothes could increase it. All in all this would make a system where you could more freely control your character but the downside could be that player become stuck in their comfort zone. Henceforth being stuck in a loop of the same rounds over and over.
We would like your feedback as players/developers for what would be your preferred play style. Thank you for the feedback and we are looking forward to it!
