I’ve said to myself “Just one more solid playtest with friends and then my game will be ready to put in front of strangers” several times now and haven’t had the courage to do it yet. How do you know when your game is far enough along that it’s time to take this step?
Post Body

I started designing my game right before my wife and I had our daughter, who just turned 2 last week.
My wife and I are both really busy and it’s rare that we both have a free evening at the same time that our friends do. This is just to say the playtests with friends are few and far between, and it’s making for very slow progress. There are a few local game stores near me that have specific nights for people to bring in games they are designing to be playtested.

Not only would I get the feedback from strangers, which I know is absolutely critical, I will just get more overall playtesting, which is what I really want. It will be much easier for me to find the time to go to one of these if all I have to do is find one on a night that my wife is not working so she can stay home with our daughter, as opposed to coordinating our schedules with 5 other people who are also very busy, centered around a time when parents are visiting us (i.e. free babysitting; we have no family that live near us).

I’m just having trouble taking the plunge. Has anyone else run into this? What advice do you have? Thanks in advance.
