Trying to make a card game that’s a mix between Yugioh & MTG.

Post Body

I’ve been struggling to make up my own card game inspired by Yugioh and Magic since both are becoming too troublesome and expensive to enjoy right now. It’s kinda reboot to original Yugioh so I would make my own versions of the games monster types but I’m struggling to figure out how many to make and what to call them. I just get so overwhelmed by the potential options I can come up with and then scrap the lists/bestiaries that I start writing.

I have a general idea of the “kinds” of monsters I want to start with(generic fantasy “starting area” enemies with the bigger “faction” monsters being Dragons, Wizards and Knights) with their inspirations that I don’t want to list right now because they’re vast and many. But the generic monsters are inspired by the creature type listings found on mtg’s Tribal Golem. Beasts, Goblins, Soldiers, Wizards, Undead and I’m including Golems. Mechanics wise it’s just basic yugioh (summoning, ATK/DEF positions/points, etc) but also trying to use mtg’s summoning sickness, Evergreen abilities and toughness as health plus a few other mechanics in mind using a kind of “Source Wellspring” and using the Card Zones in a lanes/rows as mechanic during battle.

So I’m wondering what is it I’m doing wrong? What’s the approach I should be taking to organize this idea to make some progress to actually play testing this? And is there anyway I can find someone(s) who would be interested in working and collaborating with me on this project as well?
