tDCS for hemianopsia (partial blindness) caused by stroke?
Post Body

Hi all, I was wondering if anybody had any experiences or came across any research or anecdotal accounts of tDCS being used to help restore vision loss resulting from a stroke? I found a couple studies ("COMBINING VISUAL REHABILITATIVE TRAINING AND NONINVASIVE...." and Transcranial direct current stimulation may accelerate recovery in hemianopia") but not a whole lot. A family member had a small stroke a couple years ago that resulted in about a quarter to a third of their vision being lost on the right side.
My thinking is if the area of the visual cortex is stimulated while some kind of visual tasks are given that work the effected sight area---much like what is described in some of the info I have found---then there should be some kind of positive effect, other neurons taking over for the ones that are damaged. This would seem reasonable given that no damage has occured to the optic nerve or eyes themselves (at least in this case) but I would greatly appreciate any experience or information anyone here on /tdcs has to share.
Thanks as always for the help guys.
