System Shock: Enhanced Edition First Playthrough Tips?

Since I'm not able to play the remake for technical reasons (don't have the hardware for it), I want to play the Enhanced Edition and experience System Shock that way. I have the game already and know a few tips already, like jotting down the numbers and codes, but not too much about combat or general directions. Any tips at all would be appreciated, though!
