Recommendation for mail client which will archive mails for a non-IMAP business gmail account

I'm hoping to find a mail client which will do the equivalent of what Outlook and IMAP would achieve for a compatible mailbox - allow me to make an offline copy of my business GMAIL account.

I've not got a backup copy and my business partner is making a power play and won't turn on IMAP access from the gmail business control panel, so I can't make a backup.

I have ten years of mail on that server which would be a considerable pain to lose. Can anyone recommend a solution which does not include trying to force him to turn on IMAP access?
