Questions about a monitoring solution
Post Body

Hey all,

I have started a new job a couple weeks ago as Sr Sysadmin (Basically IT Manager.. Official title change coming in a year or so) and one of my first major projects that I want to tackle is to setup a good monitoring system.

We currently have zabbix setup but its a mess and really I just do not like it at all.. Other stakeholders in the IT Department also do not like it..

I am looking primarily at PRTG but also Nagios (Used community edition in previous job)

----

Looking at Zabbix currently we have almost 200 hosts being monitored. I know for a fact that not all hosts are added to zabbix though... Likely we will need about 250 hosts to be monitored.

I have setup a call with PRTG but I do not understand how the licensing with sensors works? Can anyone shed light on this... Is there a way to figure out how many sensors we currently have in Zabbix?

Also: Suggestions on whether to go with -

1) PRTG hosted monitor

2) PRTG hosted in Azure

3) Nagios hosted in Azure

4) A different solution

Thanks!!!
