I have a PowerEdge T100 that has been a Linux server for three years, but now the user wants to switch it to Windows so they can run Quickbooks on it. Of course they want to do this at the lowest possible cost, and the lowest cost option is Windows Server Foundation. This is not sold through normal Microsoft licensing channels - it is only sold through the server manufacturer, as something called a "reseller option kit."
HP and Lenovo list the Windows Server Foundation ROK as a regular part number that you can buy. NewEgg even sells the HP part. It is BIOS-locked to the vendor, so you can't buy the HP edition and install it on a Dell. It seems like Dell ought to sell this as well, but my searches of the Dell web site have come up empty, and the sales reps I've called don't know what I'm talking about.
Does anyone have a good high-level contact at Dell who could give a definitive answer - either say no, Dell does not sell it this way, or else tell me how to go about ordering it?
