Hello All,
I think this is the best community I know of to come and ask, as it's a bit of a niche question.
I'm doing IT for a small charity in the UK and I've got a task that doesn't seem to naturally fit into many of the more comprehensive "business phone" use cases.
They would like a system that can route calls and texts to a different volunteer each week. Being able to reply from that number would be a real benefit. It being easy to change who the number is forwarded to is a must. Multiple recipients at one time might be useful on occasion.
Currently, we're using an old phone, always plugged in with call forwarding turned on and an SMS forwarder app. However, the SMS forwarding app isn't particularly reliable. Changing who receives the messages means someone having to interact with the physical phone each week, which isn't always practicable. We have considered physically passing this phone around as well, which would be possible, but again it isn't ideal as the "on call" switchover would have to be arranged between two volunteers each week.
I know from working with RingCentral in the past, I could publish our number. I could centrally manage who gets the calls each week. I could route SMS through the app and reply from there. If someone fell ill, it would be trivial to change the forwarder etc.
The budget is dirt cheap (our current phone plan is ~£3/month no data), but I can always ask vendors given our charity status for a discount.
Other than ringcentral, who else should I be asking?
Google Voice, Ringblaze and grasshopper all seem to be potential candidates but don't run in the UK at this time.
