I’ve been a guitarist(bass and regular) for almost 20 years, and my fretting hand is becoming unusable in playing position(hopefully this isn’t a permanent thing). I’ve been playing around with a Novation Circuit for a couple of years and have been teaching myself piano since Christmas. I also had a few years where I was heavy into designing my own synths in Ableton with a small midi keyboard with mapped knobs. I grew up near the Moog factory and have always wanted one but the cost has never been and likely won’t be in the card.
Then I learn about the Poly D. I’m looking to essentially play “bass” on a synth as palms down playing is far less painful than holding a guitar neck. I’m in a band that would very likely be open to that sort of thing. I love the Moog style sound, I already have a good understanding how each knob will affect the sound, I’m not looking to play piano type stuff(I have a decent digital one and we have a great keys player already). I also have effects I can run it through already, mute switches to cue up sounds between songs.
Is a Poly D going to get me 3/4 of the way to a Moog sound? Or am I always going to wish I held out? Or is there a better synth for this? I don’t mind presets, but I also don’t think it’s a necessity. I know I want knobs like analog synths have, I love the tweaking aspect. I need it to be quite thick and low to cover a bass role, but I will also likely still keep trying to play regular bass for some songs.
Thanks for your time and for any responses!
