Can the Roland System-1 Control the LFO of the Roland TB-3?

I have been scouring the internet and trying out different methods of midi chaining between the System-1 and TB-3. Ever since the sysex update for the TB-3, I have been diving into more sound design between it and the System-1. But the best I have done for control of the LFO through one instrument is via the System-1. But only if I go into the TB-3 sysex GUI and designate the effects knob as the LFO and even then, the System-1 has only been able to control the LFO of the TB-3 through the OSC2 mixer knob. I have read my manuals and forums - what am I not understanding, or is this not possible without the proper software?
