Just got back from local Guitar Center playing Sub and Slim phatty side by side. An hour of fun no matter how you slice it...
I was testing preset by preset (they have many/most of the same presets) - in some cases the unison was absolutely identical, in some cases slightly different. In the "different" cases, the Sub just sounded a bit "better" but I couldn't put my finger on why (no common theme, just "better". Maybe crisper? Deeper? Kinda depended). So, the question(s) to throw out to y'all...
- Is this typical experience?
- Is this psychological (knowing the Sub is new and shiny and more expensive)?
- Anything specific in the circuit path this can be put down to that sharpened up some of the presets? Or is it a generic "oh, we used better components".
Really torn here. Both lovely instruments so likely I'll end up with one. Don't really need a new keybed (and of course the greater price) but based on that hour of play the "better" sound was worth it, maybe understanding the difference would help me decide...?
Note: semi-experienced with soft/digital synths so was twiddling a lot looking hard for specific explanations (osc sound cleaner? filter better?) but not finding a single answer that convinced me.
