Hey all, I'm pretty new to DIY and, before putting together this Tabor, I'd only soldered a couple kits together. Point is, I'm okay enough at following instructions but really have no idea what I'm doing. Also, this is kinda rambling so feel free to skip the tale of woe if you don't want to read about me being an idiot.
Tale of Woe I bought a PCB with the SMD already soldered on and figured I only had to do the power header and knobs/jacks which should have been easy enough. When I went to follow the guide on Jolin's site I noticed the power header shown was soldered onto the opposite side of the board than it looked like mine belonged. I stupidly followed the website instead of my better judgement and then realized my board was an older version than the instructions and not only was my power on wrong but I needed to order more through hole parts. De-soldering the header was not smooth and I ended up with one of the middle pins stuck in the board. (I don't think the middle ones matter, though?) I then noticed a capacitor was missing. I don't know if I broke it or it broke in transit or was broken when it was packed up, but I never found it at my place... After I ordered the LEDs, vactrols, and capacitor I found the appropriate build guide, got it all together, and was amazed it all seemed to work!
My Problem It makes sound, all the knobs seem to affect the sound, and almost all the LEDs work. I've tried following some YT demos and mine isn't working quite like what I've found. There are 5 5mm LEDs in a ring and 2 3mm LEDs in the middle, a red and a yellow. When I use a multimeter on the diode mode I get a signal through on all of them. 6 out of the 7 light up, too, but the yellow 3mm doesn't. However, the red 3mm next to it does light up instead. I'm at a loss as to why. I'm pretty confident nothing is bridged, especially the LEDs. One thing I noticed is the red and yellow 3mm are different types of LEDs? I definitely ordered the right parts from Mouser, maybe they packed the wrong yellow LED? I didn't test it before soldering, tho, so maybe it's just bunk but not sure why the red one lights up when I test the yellow? Maybe I did a poor job soldering the capacitor back on?
Here is the site I found for my version of Tabor (SMD BOM).
Here is the front of my panel (note the middle LEDs) and here is the back. Not the best pics and I can re-take/re-upload if anyone thinks it's helpful. If anyone has ideas how I can go about trouble shooting I'd be way appreciative!
