Disk Parity Check and DSM 7 Upgrade

Hi I'm a brand new NAS owner, I picked up the 920 recently.
When I set up my NAS I thought I would get DSM 7 but it installed 6.2.4 . I understand that DSM 7 is being staggered, so I thought I best upgrade manually so that I can avail of the new methods and ways from the start.
My disks are now undergoing parity check. Is it best to wait till that is done before upgrading ?
