Looking to Purchase and upgrade a DS3611xs, thoughts?

Hi All,
I'm looking to purchase a well cared for DS3611xs, and upgrade the RAM/ CPU as I can see it can take (with extra ventilation) a decent upgrade.
What are peoples opinions?
I currently run a DS2415 and would like something to replicate to incase it bites the dust.
Also, what is the difference between the 11 and the 12 (apart from year) as the spec sheets online don't really help in comparisons.
