Hi Guys, just wanted to offer some help for those who come on here looking for answers during an hour of need.
I have a DS2415 , which last had a DSM update back in mid 2017 (yes, i know, my bad) I updated about a week ago to the latest release and ended up with blinking orange status light and a near heart attack.
I performed a power cycle* after a 30 minute wait, still no joy, did it a second time, no joy.
I used the app to scan the network, and found that the IP has changed, and the server was reporting as 'Drives inserted into new machine (or the like, basically as if it was a new machine with existing drives)
I selected 'copy all data' option and was up and running shortly after, but with a few unusual things:
the status was 'starting' (or similar) for about 10 minutes following the reboot, and unable to login
i changed the IP for the 2 nics, and one of them reverted back to DHCP from static following normal booting.
Everything has been good for the last week, just wanted to warn people to *Calm down* because i was kicking myself over 'fixing' what wasn't broken. (by the way, the interface seems slightly slower but far more polish has been done on features, I did the update for security fixes as the LAN this is situated on is being connected now to the internet and so it was vital.
* on this DS i have installed 16GB (dual 8GB) which has sometimes given me issues, but nothing that a power cycle has not sorted (I believe it's the RAM because back when i upgraded, I swapped it with the stock ram and boots first time, and i swap back to the 16GB kit and then it works, don't ask me why, i don't question it while it works.
