NAS draining ups battery very fast

I have a DS1522 connected to an APC BX1000M UPS. It is the only thing attached to the UPS. The nas currently has 2 10TB hard drives connected.
DSM shows the UPS as having 6000 seconds of charge. However when I disconnect the power to the UPS, the battery drains in seconds. I am new to this technology, so trying to understand if this is normal.
Any tips or more information I can provide to help debug?
