First NAS - 420+ or 923+?

Post Body

I've been considering getting a NAS and haven't been able to decide on which one I should be after.

I currently have a mini-PC (ฮ™ntel J3455 and 4GB RAM) acting as a Jellyfin server with an external HDD as the media storage. I am considering setting up a NAS for storage instead.

Would it make sense to get a NAS for storage and still use the mini-PC as the server? Or would setting the NAS up to act as a media server be better?

The price difference between the 420 and 923 seem to be about $100 (and it doesn't seem Synology's NAS ever go on sale), but I can't quite tell if the price difference is worth it for me. Presumably, if I use the mini-PC as the server transcoding isn't as important so the 923 as just storage would be good? Or is the performance / features between the two models not matter and I should just grab the 420 to save myself $100? And does using my mini-PC even make sense or should I just focus on the NAS?
