My LGS started an AoS escalation league recently it’s mostly made up of hardcore 40K guys and then a few new players like myself. I have been painting armies in both 40K and AoS for years but I haven’t ever really played. I am close friends with quite a few of these dudes and they have been asking me to play 40K but I have declined, but this escalation league seemed like a good way to get started and finish up a full army. The new players and I have been having a great time when we get matched up with one another, we have longer games and go back and forth. But most of the time just based on numbers we get matched up with the 40K guys and although none of them played Sigmar before this the skill difference between the two groups is immense. I either get tabled in 2 turns or crippled to the point that although I have a couple units o can’t do anything and lose. This is not a complaint thread, obviously more experienced guys are better. My question once this league wraps up in a couple weeks what is the best way for us beginners to find some intermediate competition? A step between complete noobs and roflstomp in 2 turns? I feel like with those games I don’t really learn anything or get better because I am wrecked so fast I’m not playing so much as hopelessly moving pieces around the board. The other new guys have been saying the same thing in our group chat so just wanted to know if other experienced players had recommendations. I really like the games with people my skill level but the others make me want to drop out of the league and have basically completely removed my desire to try 40K with people this good. Any help appreciated.
