Defining Relationships between PCs
Post Body

When we started playing Edge of the Empire almost two years ago, roleplaying was an entirely new concept to us. None of us had ever really done it, nor had any of us really GM'd. We made up our characters, but we didn't really know how important it can be to define why we're working together. And only recently have we really figured that sort of thing out.

When we made our characters, we just kind of whipped up something, focusing on ourselves, and had no connection or history with other PCs. And even after playing this campaign for as long as we have, there's still not a good bond between us all.

I GM another campaign with the same players (The GM in the other campaign is a PC in mine). Two of them did make a bit of a background and history together, but they planned it out in advance and everyone else has a sort of independence about them. And recently, that has even created a little bit of friction between a couple of them that I don't feel is really providing a fun group.

But when looking at the two campaigns, there's not a lot of reason why everyone would be working together. The relationships between characters in both campaigns seem very bland and shallow. Sometimes there even being stronger relationship built between PCs and NPCs.

I know Fiasco and other RPGs have relationships between players as either a part of character creation or also an entire mechanism. There's not a lot mechanically in the FFG SWRPGs.

Are there any tips or guides people work off when building or tracking relationships? Any advice on how to create a bond, and have something in there to remind them of that bond between characters (Especially for characters created much later?)

We're all constantly trying to be better roleplayers, and I think we have a good understanding of our own characters, but just are lacking how our characters should get along.

To put it into Star Wars terms, I'm trying to come up with our characters' reason of why we'd come back and blast the tie fighters off of Luke Skywalker's tail and yell "GREAT SHOT KID, THAT WAS ONE IN A MILLION!"
