"Big butts on men is the sexy fitness trend in 2024" (and my side rant about aesthetic trends)

My friend sent me this article and we had a good chuckle. It suggests that men focusing on gaining big butts through glute exercises will pop off in 2024:

This article actually drops at good time because I was going to write a post anyway about how weird it is that people workout with certain aesthetic goals in mind just because of what social media tells them they should aspire to. The fact that "big butts" are allegedly the trend with men's workout goals is really just workout styles circling back to where they were 5 years ago when you'd walk into the gym, and all guys were doing were leg day leg day leg day around the clock (and to be honest, it still is to a certain extent every time I walk into my gym given that racks are barely open...) But then, the Gen-Z broccoli haired crowd came through and they got caught up on being more about rippled aesthetics for TikTok follows where being muscular but having lower body fat became the goal, so you started to see less of the thick leg workout styles out there.

I could go on. As recent as 5 years ago, every 25 year old and 40 year old weightlifter at the gym looked the same age because everyone had a beard and proudly sported chest hair, but again, body aesthetics then changed to clean shaven and having a smooth chest, so now you had babyfaced 25 year olds and 40 year olds who looked like they were trying to turn back the hands of time by

To me, it all dumb. Workout however you see is best fit for your build and your own personal fitness goals. Don't go chasing body aesthetic trends just because social media "trends" say a certain look is in style. Go for whatever accentuates your best assets while playing toward your strengths. We're all built differently, and trends are going to come and go that sometimes favor you and sometimes leave you out in the cold, but fuck it. Just do you. No wonder so many people have body dysmorphia issues out there...
