Swim brief dilemma

Over the past year I’ve gotten into swim briefs. Problem is the only place I get to wear them is my backyard pool. Even then, I have to put on trunks sometimes because none of my friends or family think it’s acceptable. How can I get them to relax and understand it’s just another type of swimwear?
