Another Sweaty Startup Opportunity
Post Body

I saw someone recommend an opportunity a few weeks ago; it inspired me to write this. Some of y'all have seen me comment about what I do, and I can't emphasize enough how much this is needed right now:

In-home tech support services for boomers/seniors.

  • It's less dirty and sweaty than powerwashing. 99% of people don't know their iCloud/Gmail/whatever passwords. As long as y'all know how to reset and write down passwords, you've got half the skills.
  • 99% of the PCs in landfills are there because they were roasted by Norton/McAfee/Webroot/etc. Once you rip those out and a few other things, a machine becomes stable for ~10 years.
  • 99% of people have Fake Rental WiFi. They pay $80-100/month for a perfectly good Internet connection that is crimped by Fake WiFi, and of course the company tells them "oh, you need more Internets". In reality, even a cheapskate level Internet connection is more than enough once you install a Real Router. I do this for people.
  • 99% of tech-wizard neighbor-uncle-cousin-nephews have not yet heard of modern threats. When I show people that Google has a list of EVERY website they have ever gone to (The Google History Scandal), their eyes bulge out. I flush this for people.
  • Almost daily I get a call from a client duped by a Support Scammer. They let the guys break in and ravage their PCs, they give them their bank accounts/credit cards/SSNs, and in two recent cases they've mailed all their CASH in a BOX to the bad guys. YOU might know it's a scam, but you don't realize how rampant it is. Even the smartest most successful retirees fall for it, because this world is alien to them. I clean up after such messes and educate people on how to avoid them.
  • The numbers are my own estimates but you get the picture.

I started doing these services around 2009 as a guy just trying to pay the bills, and quickly realized these are worldwide problems.

In this age where phonetrees and apps are shoved down our throats, people are willing to pay anything to have a Real Human Being fight against Big Tech on their behalf. I am living proof of this. All you need to do is print out some paper business cards and do a few sample jobs for people and watch it fly. Hopefully I've inspired a few people, and feel free to pick my brain for advice.
