Hey guys, I've just had an idea for a potential season theme that could be cool. I know that with WaW coming real soon and Aussie all-stars already well underway these sorts of discussions are unlikely to gain traction, but I wanted to share it nonetheless.
My season idea revolves around concepts such as 'crabs in a bucket' or the 'prisoners' dilemma'. The basic idea is whether you'd risk greater benefits for your group for lower benefits just for yourself, knowing that everyone else is provided the same opportunity. For instance, when crabs are put in a bucket they are famously unable to escape, not because they're unable to but because the other crabs will pull them back in if they try, thus dooming all the crabs when they could've all escaped.
The prisoners dilemma is similar, and many of you have probably heard of it, but it basically revolves around the fact that if two prisoners don't snitch on each other they only get 1 year in prison, if they both snitch they get 5 and if one snitches and the other doesn't the one who kept their tongue winds up with 10 years while the one who snaked walks scot free. The best scenario for the group is to not snitch, but both likely will because they want to avoid the possible 10 years in prison and also have a chance of not spending any time at all.
Sorry for the long preamble lol.
Basically this season will explore whether players are willing to work together or, facing mistrust and miscommunication, might decide to split off which serves to weaken the original tribe.
For instance, my idea is for the first immunity challenge to be the two tribes inside large buckets, symbolising the crabs, and like the crabs they must try to escape. The first person out will gain a huge advantage right off the bat, but will send their tribe to tribal council. This may seem to illustrate that it's best for the group to remain in the bucket rather than leave, but later challenges will require the team to follow set instructions, with any divergence dooming them and saving the individual. Thus it's possible for the whole team to 'escape' but only if they work in tandem.
I've only just thought of this so I haven't got many more ideas. I was thinking that idols would also require throwing your team under the bus if you wanted to get it. Any other thoughts on this idea would be cool too :P
Cheers for reading, looking forward to WaW!
