Claire. While sitting out 3 challenges back to back isn’t the best look, I honestly don’t think it was that bad of a decision. She put her ego aside and recognized that she was one of, if not the weakest, member of her tribe. Soka was succeeding without her, so why insist on participating if she’s likely not going to contribute much anyway? Sometimes being a team player means not playing. Look at Heather in 41. She knew she was bad at challenges and so she sat out whenever possible. The one reward challenge where she was forced to participate, she completely bombed. Imagine if she insisted on participating in immunity challenges? They’d vote her ass out immediately! Now I’m not saying Claire would’ve been THAT bad at challenges, but I get why she chose to sit out.
And for those of you saying she couldn’t have overplayed because she didn’t even play at all, Survivor isn’t just about challenges. Are they important? Absolutely! But there are other facets to the game as well. Claire may not have competed in the challenges, but she was still playing the game.
That being said, I understand why they chose to vote her off. She probably should’ve stepped up for this one, but I can’t help but feel like her tribe was okay with her sitting out until they lost and needed a scapegoat. Ultimately it’s her own fault, but I don’t think she deserves as much hate as she’s getting. She just made the wrong call is all.
