I was surfing the sunset last night here in Costa Rica, in a fairly empty section of the beach. I'm a beginner surfer and clearly using a beginner longboard. One of the local guys was in the water near me, basically the only person around, maybe two others, and when a wave came I was paddling and he ended up paddling literally inches away from me on my right at the exact same time. Didn't see him at all but I was going to back off the wave and let him take it.
Ended up though that the wave took my board and it hit him and he got seriously aggressive. He was screaming all sorts of curses at me, saying he would put his feet on my face and drown me. The whole time I was just saying I'm sorry, I'm a beginner, peace and love, anything to calm the situation down. He pointed at his fins, said look see how sharp?, and said he would take his fins and run them over my face if I didn't get off the beach, and then a wave came and he was closer to the wave, and he pointed his board right at me. I dove down into the water and he surfed right over my head.
I went back to the shore and I was pretty shaken. Sat and meditated for a while and tried to get over it. This morning I'm still shaken, I can't stop thinking about it and I'm a bit anxious, I'm sitting here in my room and I wanted to go surfing this morning but I can't get myself to stand up, I don't know if I really have the heart for it.
