Thoughts on oversizing pyzalien 2?

I found a crazy deal on a pyzalien 2, it would be my first “performance” board even though I know it’s more of a daily driver. I’m planning a couple costa rica trips this year and I’d like to have something that can handle more powerful waves than my hybrid if need be. I’m 5’ 8 165 ibs, board is 6’ 31.5l. Pyzel recommends a couple inches shorter than shortboard length, but being that it’s my first shortboard should I go a bit bigger for ease of use? Or would it be to clunky and defeat the whole purpose?
