Long story short, I decided to pursue a career in ocean/air freight. My degree in supply chain will be completed in a couple years and I plan on getting my masters to get into leadership. I took a pay cut to take on my current job from my previous job in tech because I knew I needed experience on top of my degree and this was a total career change. I plan only Being at this company for 16-20 months due to needing a higher salary but I am learning a lot so I know this temporary pay cut was worth it.
So my nervousness comes in because I don’t see any ladder with financial gain . I’ve checked the internet for career path and don’t see anything. Everything is like 54-65k salary and I’m trying to get close to 100k within five years. I live outside of Chicago so these salaries don’t cut it especially when it comes to getting a mortgage.
Am I in the wrong channel of supply chain ? I know it’s a massive industry but I’m concerned with the salaries I’m seeing. I was thinking about getting my customs brokerage license this summer and maybe take that on.
Please give me honest feedback, and give it to me straight. I’m in my early 30s so if I need to pivot I would like to do that now.
