Human remains found in abandoned supermarket
Post Body

I didnt know if I was allowed to replicate stories or link or whatever, but I thought this was interesting as it is right in corelation with the tornado episode of Superstore (I think I am remembering the body they found tied to that story arc).

Being I used to crawl up on the coolers at a large supermarket I worked at in the late 80s I can relate, we didnt have the space in between to fall through though.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa —

Last week, the Council Bluffs Police Department received information from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Criminalistics Laboratory regarding the identity the body, which was located Jan. 24 in the vacant store at 1817 West Broadway.

The victim was identified as Larry Ely Murillo-Moncada, of Council Bluffs.

The State Lab was able to make a positive identification by using DNA from Murillo’s biological parents.

On Nov. 28, 2009, Murillo’s parents reported him missing after he became upset and ran out of their home; he was 25 years old at the time of that report.

Larry was employed at No Frills Supermarket at the time of his disappearance.

The autopsy indicated no signs of trauma.

Former employees of No Frills Supermarket said it was common for workers to be on top of the coolers, as the space was utilized for storage of goods.

Investigators believe Murillo went to the store after leaving his home and climbed on top of the coolers, where he fell into an approximate 18 inch gap between the back of the cooler and a wall, becoming trapped.

The case is being closed and classified as an accidental death.

Jan. 24

Council Bluffs police said officers responded to a call from the No Frills Supermarket at 1817 West Broadway Thursday for a death investigation.

The body was found while a contract firm was removing the store's shelving and coolers. Officials said the body appeared to have been there for an extended period of time.

Police said the Iowa State Medical Examiner's Office has ordered an autopsy, which will be done at the office's facility in Ankeny.

The No Frills Supermarket location at West Broadway closed in 2016.
