Question About sumo's on the mx track
Post Body

Hi all.

Quick background and then to my question. So I grew up riding motocross with my dad and that's all I have every really done on a bike. MX tracks and the occasional trail ride. I got my MC license last year after wanting too for years. I bought an old Yamaha XJ600 and fixed it up. I had a lot of fun building it and riding it was such a great experience coming from off road only riding. Well I have been interested in Supermoto's for a while now and am seriously considering making the switch. Now I have two bikes, my XJ and a YZ250F. I am thinking about getting rid of both and going with a Supermoto setup to kind of do it all. I ride less MX track and more woods recently. I would also love to be able to commute on it a few times a week and just be able to go for a ride whenever I am in the mood without having to get out the trailer and drive an unregistered bike somewhere (thats why I got my license and street bike in the first place). I can't decide if this is a good idea for me or not. I am going back and forth with myself and the one big question mark for me is, if I do go for a ride at the MX track from time to time how will the bike handle the track?

Unfortunately I don't get down to the track as much as I used to or as much as I would like but if I have the chance to go I would like to be confident that my bike will be okay out there. I am not racing, I am not going as fast as some of the other guys out there, I just want to have fun, rail some berms and launch some jumps. I have seen people over the years out on the track with enduro/dual sport bikes and I guess they were able to hold their own but have any of mounted your dirt tires up and hit the track with your sumo's? How was the suspension? Do you run a different rear sprocket on your dirt wheels to get more acceleration? I have so many thoughts/questions I don't think I could write them all down.

I have been trying to tell myself to just wait until the spring and see what the new riding season brings since its winter here but I am impatient. Also I found 2 WR's in my area that I have my eye on so that isn't helping the waiting until spring theory. One already has both sets of wheels so that is really appealing to me. Although I would have to sell both bikes before I buy something else, the wife puts up with two bikes I don't want to push it by adding a 3rd. so yeah just wondering if I can really have a do-it-all bike and be happy with it wherever I take it.

Thanks for any insight guys.
