My dad & I live in the Atlanta suburbs and are making our way down to the speedway this Saturday for our first ever supercross race. We are pretty big fans of all things motorsports. The weekend is mostly filled with watching NASCAR, F1 and Indy car in that order of preference. Series like SX / MX, endurance racing, drag racing, etc. are ones we don't quite follow as closely but don't change the channel when they are on either.
My biggest question is what is there to do BEFORE the race? There's FanFest which please correct me if I'm wrong is included with the ticket? How much is there to do typically? I'd assume it'll be some merch tents/trailers, some sponsors giving away stuff, food, maybe an interview or three, etc. We've attended probably an average of 1 NASCAR race a season for the past 15 years or so and the pre-race fan activation stuff has really been cut down since the pandemic. I also noticed on the schedule shows timed qualifying taking place in the earlier hours of the day. Will we be able to go to our seats to watch this?
I feel like we have pretty decent seats. Section 253, about mid-way up. According to the track map this section lines up with the start gates, one of the two sand sections, and pretty close to the table top and large jumps leading up to it. Hoping we're high enough to see over the catch fence too and central enough to generally follow the race overall.
Any advise / help is much appreciated guys! We're looking forward to trying out your sport in person.
TL;DR: First SX race this weekend. What to do before heat races? When to arrive? etc.
