Damage Comparisons: Attack vs Speed - Squall Chimeras and others
Post Body

Hello there fellow Summoners

BEFORE READING - This mainly revolves around Squall Chimeras, BUT, it can be applied(to a certain extent) to other monsters that scale with speed. Notable monsters would include: Rakshasas, Kaito, Kaz, all the Ifrits(not recommended on Vero just sayin') to name a few. TLDR at bottom of post ~

So, I just spent a shitload of energy to compile some information in terms of Squall's scaling with Speed and Attack.

I thought I would put this together for the people fortunate enough to own a Taor/Lagmaron/Shan, not as a guide, but more of a side-by-side comparision of numbers you would expect to see when building attack and/or speed.

I did this "experiment" by running Aiden 1 Hell with my Lagmaron(Wind Chimera) up to the last stage and attacking the small(non-boss) Monster Flowers with Squall. The factors I included were Speed Buff, Attack Buff, Defense Break and Bernard's 30% Attack Leader Skill for Wind Monsters.

I'll start with the stats of my Lagmaron:

Rune Setup - Swift/Blade with SPD/CRI Dmg%/ATK% on slots 2/4/6

Lvl 40

HP - 15,973

DEF - 727

ATK - 1428

SPD - 208

CRI Rate - 62%

CRI Dmg - 148%

2% ATK from building

3% Wind ATK from building

5% CRI Dmg from building

2% SPD from building

1 Skill up on Squall(10% Dmg)

And here is the skill description of the said skill that is being tested:

"Squall - The faster your Attack Speed, the greater the damage becomes. Attack Speed is increased for 2 turns if you get a Critical Hit."

Now here are the approximate damage comparisons:

Legend -

N/A = No Buff, No Debuff

SPD = Speed Buff

ATK = Attack Buff

DB = Defense Break

Without Bernard's Leader Skill(30% ATK for Wind Monsters):

N/A - 14k

DB - 22k

SPD - 16k

SPD, DB - 28k

ATK - 20k

ATK, DB - 34k

SPD, ATK - 24k

SPD, ATK, DB - 41k

WITH Bernard's Leader Skill(30% ATK for Wind Monsters):

N/A - 16k

DB - 25k

SPD - 19k

SPD, DB - 32k

ATK - 23k

ATK, DB - 40k

SPD, ATK - 28k

SPD, ATK, DB - 49k

Now, as you can see from the numbers above, Squall also scales off attack even though the the skill description states it scales off Attack Speed. That being said, it also scales quite well.

Replacing my slot 2 with an ATK% rune brings similar numbers plus also greatly increases the damage of skill 1 and 3 in the expense of losing approximately 30 speed(quite noticable, especially in an arena setting).

TLDR - You can rune either way; if want more balanced damage spread across your skills, build ATK% on slot 2 OR You can rune SPD on slot 2 for more burst damage with Squall. Also note that you get more turns when built for more speed -> more turns = more damage!

My personal recommendation is to build ATK% on slot 2 until you have Squall fully skilled-up to make it a 2 turn cooldown. ATK% would probably net you faster runs for dungeons too.

The value of SPD increases greatly once you get Squall on a 2 turn cooldown, because with enough CRIT rate, you can have 100% uptime on the speed buff the skill brings; which will then make building speed much more optimal :)

I'll conclude here, thanks for reading!
