A bad role to learn the game?

Post Body

So I've been playing league for about a year and a half, and I'm on a steady climb to gold right now, about mid silver 2. I was originally interested in mid a while back but eventually fell in love with bruisers and devided to otp riven. Riven I know is not the ideal champion for anyone below diamond really but she's one of the only champions I can stand playing multiple games in a row on, so I stick to just her for now.

A friend who is plat was discussing with me the other day and I had mentioned that eventually after I learn thr game enough to be around mid gold I will try expanding my role knowledge to other roles, and then they told me that top is a bad role to learn the game on. Is this true? Why is it bad comparatively to adc? Both lanes use wave control a lot, can be jungle dependent, and have objectives and scuttles right next to them, so why is top a "bad" role to learn league from?
