I am making this post because I wanted to clear up a common misconceptions that I've heard while coaching new-ish junglers. Recently, I've had a few players justify buying Ionians instead of Sorc Boots for a faster clearspeed. The line that I've heard parroted the most is "Sorc's doesn't increase your clearspeed significantly since jungle monsters only have 20 MR!"

Obviously, there are a lot of other factors to consider when choosing boots (such as how much gold you back with, whether you need defensive boots, whether you need a certain AH to do certain combos... etc), but in this post I wanted to show that Sorc Boots is comparable to Ionians for clearspeed (although both are probably overshadowed by flat AP).

These calculations make a few assumptions, namely that you're playing an AP jungler that does most of their damage to camps through abilities.

Lucidity Boots gives 20 AH, which lets you cast your abilities 20% more often. If the assumptions hold, Lucidity Boots should give ~<20% increase in your clearspeed.

Since jungle camps have 20MR now, the DPS increase of Sorcerer's Shoes is: [100 / (100 2)] / [100 / (100 20)] = 1.1765% -> 17.65% increase in clearspeed.

Sorc's flat pen also applies to JG item burn, and passives like Lillia's. However, Ionians also offers Summoner Spell Haste, which means you can upgrade/smite more.

Overall, I think that if you are a jungler that relies solely on abilities to clear camps, Ionians is still slightly faster than Sorc boots, but honestly *most* of the AP roster has some interaction which makes your clear with Sorcs faster than your clear with Ionians (Karthus - E, Lillia - Passive, Ekko - Passive and W Passive, etc.).

Especially on champs like Evelynn, Elise, etc who spike extremely hard w/ Sorcs DSeal, its not worth getting Ionians for "faster clearspeed".
