So I have a question about MMR in the different ranked queues. I recently made a team with some friends and we did our placements both for 3s and for 5s. We went 3-2 in 3s and landed in Bronze IV. We went 3-2 in 5s and landed in Bronze V. The players on my team are all mid-Silver MMR. However, in BOTH placement series, we were matched against players with Plat/Diamond MMR. All four of those losses were due largely to the completely lopsided matchups. In the last 5s placement game we played, for example, our team MMR was almost 500 lower than theirs. That seems like a substantial disparity.

My question: is this normal? It seems unfair to get matched up against players we'll obviously lose to, being two entire leagues below them. Is it just that 3s and 5s MMRs are entirely unrelated to soloQ MMR, in which case the queue simply didn't know that the Plat players were truly Plat?

inb4 "learn to play." We won some other games with Plat players. I'm not complaining we lost (if I am, I'm complaining specifically because we lost to high-Plat players), I'm just wondering how the matchmaking system is supposed to work.
