The whole point of putting the word “native” in front of New Yorker is because so few people were born and raised in the city. It’s a very clear distinguisher for those in the city and calling yourself a native New Yorker in somewhere like Upstate New York just doesn’t apply.
This is coming from someone originally from jersey who has been in the city for 7 years and never planning on leaving and would never call myself a New Yorker until like at least 30 years living here.
