I read this a long time ago, so I could be mixing these details up with other books but some random things that I think were part of the story:

She might have gotten in trouble for shoplifting and the animal shelter time started as a punishment

She liked chocolate and reading in the bathtub

She had a scarf... no idea why this detail is notable but it sticks out in my head as something to remember

A dogs name was maybe Charlie?

The ending sucked... she formed a bond with a dog and was going to adopt him but he got put down

So if this sounds familiar to anyone please let me know— I don’t remember the book but I remember it had a major impact on me when I read it and I’d like to reread it but haven’t been able to think of the title for years.
