Looking for someone that has the competitive/puzzly nature of Ready Player One

A lot of people seem to enjoy the 80s references of that book. I did enjoy them but what really hooked me about it was the characters having to solve intricate riddles solo, while competing for a prize at the end. I love that sort of thing. Anybody know of books that use that premise as the plot?
