So my wife wants to start reading a book with me.
Post Body

I made a mistake and posted this to r/books but after a bit of digging I realized this is probably the better location. I’m coming here for suggestions on what to read and by read I mean listen to. We have two young children (3 yrs and 2) who are rambunctious and never leave us alone so sitting down to read together has been something my wife and I have not been able to do in a few years. We miss it, but really we miss doing stuff together.

As part of a New Years semi-resolution she wants to turn on an audiobook while we fold laundry, do dishes, clean the house or during downtime whenever. I really want to make this happen but I’m not sure where to begin. I guess a bit of background would help.

I use Audible for books while I commute to work (about four hours with traffic) and I still have a credit leftover with another coming in a couple days. I come from a science fiction and fantasy background (Steven Erikson, Iain Banks, Brandon Sanderson, Garth Nix, Neil Gaiman, Dan Simmons, William Gibson, D.M. Cornish, Neal Stephenson, etc.) while she comes from a young adult fantasy, historical fiction background (Ray Carson, Louisa May Alcott, Laura Ingolls Wilder, Patricia Briggs, Erin Morgenstern, Jodi Meadows, Lois Lowry, we both like her actually). We also like literary influences like Tolkien, Shakespeare (Simmons’ Olympos was fantastic though she would have a hard time getting into the sci-fi aspects) Brothers Grimm, Sherlock Holmes and the like.

I’m rambling on and typing this all up on mobile while trying to put together dinner so pardon the mess! And thank you in advance, any suggestion is appreciated and we’ll sit down and compare if it falls within our interests.

Addendum: Length of the book is not a factor. Someone already suggested Wheel of Time and I joked about how well reach our sixties before finishing THAT one.

P.S. If there is excessive swearing or sexual content then it’s a no go. As mentioned before we have young children and I’d rather stay away from all that.
