Something to keep a returning reader reasonably engaged but not too engrossed
Post Body

I've always wanted to bring back my long-lost reading habit. Problem is, my attention span is now virtually non-existent thanks to short-form brain rot content and having inattentive ADHD.

So I searched this sub and the other one to find the right books that will rekindle my interest. I came upon Dark Matter by Blake Crouch and City of Thieves by David Benioff. I read those and turned page after page and finished both books in about four sittings. Shit was way too good but I think that that pace of consumption is ultimately unsustainable. I was only able to devote this much time to reading because I'm on vacation.

After the New Year, I'll need to go back to a reality where work and other obligations won't allow me to read for five hours straight. I might be able to, but it will be at the expense of sleep and my other hobbies and responsibilities.

Time constraints aside, I'd also like to train my attention span as well. I don't want to indulge too much on books that are too effortless to read. I want to exert myself a bit and try to understand and digest and reflect more. But nothing too tedious and taxing of course.

I know I sound fussy but I'm just looking for books in that sweet spot where I can read it for about an hour a night, be content with a couple of chapters, and still be compelled enough to read it the following night and the next -- if that makes sense.
