Hi everyone, looking to learn about a better way to live.
I’ve been really curious to read about ideas on western society values such as individualism, self reliance, constant improvement/achievement, independence and how they impact the loneliness epidemic, community building, and social structures. As well as potential solutions to this problem.
I feel like as a capitalistic society we have lost a sense of social obligation? Or maybe obligation isn’t the right word, but basically it seems like we don’t rely on one another as much anymore for help when we need it. Instead, we use paid services for meal delivery, groceries, driving/rides, dog walkers, movers, even childcare and doulas are a form of help that we used to ask of our family and friends and now it seems more commonplace to hire help. I don’t have a meaning to all this but I am very curious to see if there’s anyone who has written about what is happening to our society in terms of it affecting social structures.
