GreenDot and other debit cards

Has anyone tried giving their SB one of those debit cards you can get at stores like WalMart, as a way of providing an easy way to cover expenses and facilitate gifts at a distance? I would open the account and just give her the card, then reload as needed. I can’t tell if these end up personalized with my name after the account is open, if tying it an account mean that the SB could start overdrawing it, or if there are other complications. Any insights would be great!
