The scammers are getting better. I think I dodged one. We shall see.
Here's what happened. I responded to a profile on SCM. It looked promising. We started texting. Found that that we were both out of our normal area for a while, talked about using chat and maybe skype to get to know each other before a meet which could happen after we were both home and nearby again.
Things got kinda intense. She indicated she would be willing to come to where I am now for the summer. I offered a date--a few weeks away. Next thing I know she's wanting to come next week, for longer than I suggested. We chat some more. She gives me a price for plane tickets, etc. Then the kicker: she asked for $$ to buy the tickets. I said no. We'll wait till we're both home.
Now I'm the bad guy for sticking to my guns. I'm the scammer. Etc. Etc.
This one was good. But as I go back through the texts, the signs were there.
She hasn't ghosted me, at least not yet. I'm getting slammed with all kinds of hurt and disappointment and so on.
At least I didn't spend anything.
Update:
So the tactic shifted--she agreed to do a video chat. When it finally happened, she literally stayed on for 1 minute. Long enough to more or less verify that the person on the vchat was the person in the pictures. It was "hi" then almost instantly "bye".
After that, she 'lost her phone' and needed money to replace it. (no). Would I put her on my phone account so she can get a new phone (no)--I mean, really? Who would do that? That's like opening your bank account, plus all OPSEC is non-existent.
Last message: "Fuck You". (from her)
Bye.
